Notre Dame just struck a six-year deal with SoFi Technologies, placing the financial company’s brand on the school’s jerseys across every sport starting this fall. The deal, which is worth an estimated $18 million to $20 million annually, is believed to be the most expensive partnership of its kind in college athletics history.

On the same day, Ohio State announced a multiyear sponsorship deal with JPMorgan Chase. Exact terms were not released, but multiple outlets (including the Associated Press) reported it at $17 million annually. The school’s jerseys and uniforms will feature a jersey patch of the Chase Bank logo in a deal that spans the department’s 36 varsity sports.

Multiple other schools have already announced similar jersey patch sponsorships. How? NCAA Division I leaders approved corporate jersey patches back in January, aiming to help athletic departments offset the soaring costs of paying student-athletes. Teams can now feature up to two patches on uniforms during regular-season games. The presence of such a patch in postseason play remains a separate question. The College Football Playoff—a postseason event to determine college football’s national champion—has yet to determine how, or if, patches will extend to its games.

One sports management executive told Inc. that the next leap in size likely won’t come from a single school, but from an entire state university system. He believes that only a handful of states like Florida, Texas, and California, have university systems large and athletically prominent enough to command a deal of that scale. Combining multiple major athletic programs and their institutional banking relationships would create more value for a company than any single school—even one as high-profile as Notre Dame.

A few days of relative calm in the Middle East came to an end Tuesday when Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward a U.S. military base in Jordan in what U.S. Central Command described as an “attempted surprise attack.” However, all of the missiles were intercepted, CENTCOM said in a statement.

Middle East analysts said the price of crude oil is an economic weapon that Iran has wielded effectively against the U.S., where high fuel prices have boosted inflation.

I love planes. Always have … and the biggest electric plane ever is about to hit the skies. The Federal Aviation Administration just issued a Special Airworthiness Certificate to Heart Aerospace, authorizing the company to immediately begin piloted flight testing of its X1 demonstrator aircraft at Plattsburgh International Airport in upstate New York.

According to Robb Report, the California-based plane maker worked with the administration for over a year and developed an extensive ground-testing program that proved the experimental aircraft was ready for takeoff. With a wingspan of 106 feet, a fuselage length of 76 feet, and a takeoff weight of more than 25,000 pounds, the X1 is set to become the largest electric aircraft ever flown.

The X1 is a full-scale demonstrator for the ES-30 production aircraft, which is designed to carry up to 30 passengers on short-haul regional flights. It is equipped with two inboard electric motors and two outboard turboprop engines, meaning it can run on pure battery power, sustainable aviation fuel, or a mix of both. That not only lowers operating costs but also reduces carbon emissions.
