Today’s Big Story
Seahawks Win Super Bowl
They earned a second Super Bowl title in franchise history with a 29-13 victory over the Patriots

It was one helluva game. The Seahawks smothered the New England Patriots 29-13 to claim their second Super Bowl title in franchise history and put an emphatic championship stamp on a season nobody but them saw coming.
Running back Kenneth Walker III was named the MVP after rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries, on a night the Seahawks’ defense forced three turnovers and scored a touchdown on an interception return by Uchenna Nwosu in the fourth quarter. Seattle kicker Jason Myers also set a Super Bowl record with five made field goals as Seattle claimed its second championship, denying New England its seventh.
As ESPN put it: “The best team in the NFL spent the 2025 season hiding in plain sight.” Preseason expectations did not shine on Seattle the way they did on the two better-known offensive mainstays in their own division. But the Seahawks’ dominant defensive front was a bad matchup for Drake Maye and a Patriots offense that came into the Super Bowl struggling.
Since 2015, Seattle fans have carried the bitter taste of Super Bowl XLIX, when the Patriots edged the Seahawks 28-24 thanks to Butler's stunning goal line interception of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in the game's waning seconds, one of the most famous plays in NFL history. It was a different cast of characters Sunday to that 2015 game, and an entirely different outcome.
And after months of premature right-wing panic about a performance full of anti-American messaging, the Bad Bunny Super Bowl halftime show went off without a hitch. The “Benito Bowl” delivered a joyous and stylish message of unity, while paying homage to Puerto Rico. Dancing in stately white across the Levi’s Stadium field, which was dressed up to look like a Puerto Rican sugar plantation, Bad Bunny tore through career highlights.
The show was also filled with star power: Lady Gaga performed a salsa version of her song “Die With A Smile,” and Ricky Martin sang Bad Bunny’s heartbreaking hit “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii.” At the “casita,” celebrities like actors Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal, influencer Alix Earle and singers Karol G and Cardi B, were spotted onstage behind the dancers.

The Hiring Recession
Job hunters are so desperate that they’re now trying almost anything to get hired
It’s always tough looking for a new job. But, apparently, it’s even tougher these days. Job growth last year was at its lowest outside of a recession since the early 2000s, according to the December jobs report issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hiring has also been anemic and long-term unemployment has increased, suggesting job seekers are having trouble landing gigs.
“It’s fair to say that 2025 was a hiring recession in the United States,” Heather Long, one economist told CNBC. That recession affects both blue- and white-collar workers. In such a struggling job market—where the few job opportunities that do get posted use dubious AI tools to screen applicants—old fashioned networking has become perhaps the only viable path to a job. Which might explain why people are now looking for jobs outside the usual paths and reaching out … via dating apps.
Other job seekers are actually hiring a new crop of so-called reverse recruiters to help them crack a competitive market. Instead of companies paying recruiters to find talent for tough-to-fill positions, people are paying around 20% of their first month’s pay to land an interview. One person told the Wall Street Journal that he paid about $400 to customize his résumé and apply to 50 jobs within two weeks. He used the break from applying to start a certification in project management, which he said could help him land a new role.

What’s Going Down at the Olympics
From the Opening Ceremony to the early medal count
Are you the type that watches the Olympics when they roll around? I definitely am, so be prepared for a few more updates over the next two weeks. On Friday, the Winter Games kicked off in Italy. Unlike most Winter opening ceremonies (which tend to smaller, more understated versions of the Summer Games), the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics kicked off with a very Italian, bombastic opening party that featured, among other things, bold names like Mariah Carey (singing in Italian, but not really moving) and bobble-headed representations of Italian composers, a ’90s-core DJ spinning on an ice block, and The White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore giving an impressive dance routine.
With the Games officially open, competition kicked off with 92 nations and nearly 3,000 athletes vying for gold, silver and bronze. There will be 116 medal events, with new ones in skeleton, ski jumping, freestyle skiing, luge and alpine combined. However, the most popular sporting events remain ice hockey, figure skating, alpine skiing and snowboarding. The U.S. figure skating team took home the gold medal in the team event, thanks to Ilia Malinin, the two-time reigning world champion in his debut Olympics.
Italy is enjoying that home team advantage with a fantastic start … Francesca Lollobrigida earned the first Italian gold medal of the Milan Cortina Games in the women's 3000-meter event in speed skating. Lollobrigida's triumph occurred a few hours after Giovanni Franzoni and Dominik Paris took silver and bronze in the men’s downhill.
