Acting ICE Chief Resigns

He oversaw the agency’s rapid expansion and uptick in immigration arrests that led to massive protests

The guy in charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement—well, the acting director—Todd Lyons, submitted his resignation on Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed. He oversaw the agency during its rapid expansion and tumultuous immigration crackdowns that targeted Democratic-run cities during the Trump administration.

Lyons has defended ICE’s conduct in Congress and the courtroom as the agency faces scrutiny over the White House’s mass deportation drive. President Donald Trump appointed Lyons acting director in March 2025, succeeding Caleb Vitello, who was reassigned. He appointed Mullin, a U.S. senator from Oklahoma and political ally, last month after he fired Kristi Noem. The Senate confirmed Mullin on March 23.

White House border czar Tom Homan said Thursday that under Lyons’ leadership, “ICE achieved a record number of removals in the first year of this Administration, despite unprecedented challenges.”

Where’s he going? He said in a letter to Mullin that he's resigning to take a job in the private sector, Fox News first reported. “Director Lyons has been a great leader of ICE,” Mullin said in a statement afterwards. “Thanks to his leadership, American communities are safer.” That statement seems debatable, but more importantly, Mullin did not say in his statement who will lead ICE.

His exit raises more questions about the direction of ICE, which has faced dimming public opinion over its aggressive tactics. Recent polling shows that most Americans believe the agency has gone too far under the Trump administration. The fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota earlier this year, in particular, drew widespread outrage and calls for reforms.

Israel and Lebanon Truce in Effect

The cease-fire removes a major obstacle to U.S.-Iran peace talks

President Trump announced that Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, to beginning Thursday evening. The U.S. has been pressing for a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon for several days, while working in parallel on a potential peace deal with Iran.

The truce removes a major obstacle to U.S.-Iran peace talks. But Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militia Israeli forces are targeting in Lebanon, did not say whether it would accept the truce. A ceasefire also brings relief to many in northern Israel, which faced intense Hezbollah rocket fire in the current round of fighting. Thousands of displaced families hoping to return to their homes flooded onto the main highway to southern Lebanon.

Of course, the plan is politically sensitive for Netanyahu, but many are hoping it could help the U.S. reach a necessary deal with Iran. While the two tracks are officially separate, Iran claims the ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon constitute a violation of the truce it agreed with the U.S.

The Bestselling Luxury Cars of the Year

Which models from the likes of BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus are the biggest hitters on the sales charts?

It seemed like 2026 was off to a good start, at least for makers of luxury automobiles. High-end cars were selling fast, but it might’ve been because lower and middle-income buyers were being priced out of the new-car market due to record-high vehicle prices. Now Motor1 reports that the first quarter of the year was not great for luxury car sales in the United States.

BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes, the top three sellers, all saw their sales decline, but it was not a bad couple of months for Acura (which I’ve always referred to as the “thinking man’s luxury car”). The Japanese brand’s sales increased 5.2% in the first quarter of 2026, with the brand selling 32,352 cars—making it the fourth bestselling luxury maker, jumping ahead of Cadillac.

So who’s buying what? Car and Driver gathered the numbers for luxury-badged vehicles to see which models are selling the best so far in 2026, and while some are the usual suspects, other entries here may be more popular than you realize. Of course, they're all SUVs, but what else would you expect?
