Today’s Big Story
Not So Sexy Specs
Snap’s thick-rimmed glasses, which go on sale this fall, were just unveiled as “the next computer“

We know where it’s headed. It being, the future, and that destination is wearables. And most likely, in the shape of augmented reality, that permanently plants a screen in our sight-lines, right? Snap is trying to beat Meta to the punch and just introduced their highly-anticipated smart glasses that co-founder Evan Spiegel described as a “leapfrog advancement” and the “computer of the future.”
The glasses are built around advanced displays and cameras that enable AR, allowing users to run apps and third-party software, play games and receive notifications overlaid on the real world through transparent lenses. They come in two sizes and are compatible with prescription lenses. Spiegel called the Specs both “very, very” wearable and highly capable, which he said gives Snap an opportunity “in a market that’s focused either on very large and clunky headsets that are super capable or very lightweight glasses that don’t really do much.”
And while they’re debuting with a cool campaign, in real life they don’t look as stylish as they do in a photo shoot. And let’s be real: They are expensive. A pair will set you back $2,195 and if that sounds okay, you can pre-order some now with a $220 deposit. Battery life is, unsurprisingly, fairly short. Gizmodo says you’ll get about 4 hours on a single charge, though that’s extended by a charging case that provides 20 hours of juice.
According to Business of Fashion, Snap Specs stand out from devices such as Meta Platforms Inc.’s Quest and Apple Inc.’s Vision Pro, which rely on cameras to capture the surrounding environment and display it on digital screens inside a headset. They also differ from the growing category of screen-free smart glasses, which take a simpler and more affordable approach. The company entered that market roughly a decade ago with Spectacles, and competitors including Meta and Apple are now investing heavily in similar products.
So who will win this so-called arms race? I guess time will tell.

The Group of 7 Meets in France
Trump and other world leaders have frank discussions on Iran and Ukraine wars
President Trump and other world leaders are in Evian-les-Bains, a French spa town, for the three-day Group of 7 summit, where a tentative deal to end the Iran war has been a prominent topic thus far. The leaders have held challenging discussions—Europe’s alliance with America may still be on the rocks, but they seem eager to work together to end Russia’s war in Ukraine and addressing the Middle East crisis as the summit continues.
Switzerland’s foreign ministry said Tuesday a signing ceremony for a deal between the United States and Iran will take place Friday at the Bürgenstock resort near the city of Luzern. The U.S. and Iran have reached an initial agreement that would extend their shaky ceasefire and lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but significant challenges remain to ending the war, including whether Israel will continue its offensive in Lebanon.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined G7 leaders for a morning working session Tuesday. Talks wrapped quickly, as leaders gathered for just 75 minutes. According to a French diplomat familiar with the talks, G7 leaders, including Trump, agreed to increase pressure on Russia, notably through sanctions targeting its oil and natural gas sectors.

McDonald’s Goes Back to Fried Pies
They’re serving fried apple pie again for America’s 250th birthday
Look, this whole America 250th celebration Trump has been trying to cook up hasn’t really gone according to plan. And frankly, it’s been a little underwhelming. But this is a celebration I think we can all agree is a move in the right direction. After all, what’s more American than apple pie?
And for the country’s semiquincentennial, the fast food giant just announced that it’s bringing back fried apple pies for the first time in more than three decades. The OG fan favorite will be available at most U.S. restaurants for a limited time starting June 23. According to the company, the “all-day menu item features our signature filling made with 100% American-grown apples, wrapped in the same golden crunch and flaky fried crust fans remember.”
As you might remember (or heard from an older family member), McDonald's replaced its original fried handheld pies with baked versions in the mid-1990s to align with growing consumer demand for healthier options, specifically reduced fat and cholesterol. The shift in dietary awareness influenced the company to move away from deep-fried menu items, but many said the new ones weren’t as satisfying (and complained that they still had just as many calories).
More Treats:
Burger King recently debuted its Firecracker Cookie Pie, which has a sugar cookie crust and red, white and blue star-shaped sprinkles.
